Sezim Music Series

A pouco menos de um mês do Piano Concerto Festival, Maio foi celebrado a absorver a beleza do Sezim Music Festival que aconteceu há umas semanas, na histórica Casa de Sezim. A iniciativa das Music Series Festivals, em parceria com a Portugal em Movimento, estreou a sua primeira edição neste cenário deslumbrante e idílico de Guimarães.

Sob a mestria artística do pianista Vasco Dantas, o evento reuniu um elenco extraordinário de músicos nacionais com projecção internacional, dedicados a elevar as mais sublimes notas do repertório da musica clássica e do jazz. Nomes magistrais como Mário Laginha, Vasco Dantas, João Barradas, Joel Cardoso, Isabel Vaz, Ricardo Gaspar e Marco Rodrigues abriram este novo capítulo, com concertos que na sua primeira edição foram inesquecíveis.

A sublime iniciativa, apoiada pelo Município de Guimarães, integrou-se no ciclo anual “Abril com Cantigas de Maio”, exaltando a excelência da criação e interpretação artística nacionais com uma programação que tem como missão abraçar a diversidade de públicos.

A lindíssima Casa de Sezim foi o cenário deste novo festival e as imagens falarão por si, já que após de cada concerto, um cocktail nos suntuosos interiores da casa permitiu à audiência contemplar os inigualáveis papéis de parede da casa Zuber. Com cenas figurativas das Américas, as únicas gémeas presentes na Sala dos Diplomatas na Casa Branca, além de paisagens indianas e literárias, como a Sala de Dom Quixote, neste ambiente arrebatador, o público conversou com os artistas, algo raríssimo nos festivais de música.

Importante então atirar muitas pétalas ao projeto artístico ‘Music Series Festivals’, que nasceu com a missão de apoiar e promover também jovens talentos portugueses na música erudita, ampliando sua visibilidade nacional, mas também internacional. Com a ambição de criar uma rede de festivais de música erudita, o projeto valoriza a excelência musical nacional e tem a minha nota vinte, mas com este cenário e Por isso o Sezim Music Series ser tão especial, também pela entrega e entusiasmo de Manuel Santiago, co-mentor e organizador do festival, a partir de Zurique na Suiça.

A origem ‘Music Series’ remonta ao festival Algarve Music Series, fundado em 2016 pela violoncelista Isabel Vaz e pelo pianista Vasco Dantas, que dirigem artisticamente o projeto. Em 2022, o festival expandiu-se para Avis, no Alto Alentejo, com o Avis Music Series. No ano seguinte, no Algarve, foi inaugurado o Piano Concerto Festival, um evento pedagógico e performativo que oferece a jovens pianistas a rara oportunidade de ensaiar, gravar e se apresentar com uma orquestra profissional.

Numa janela para o Mundo, e já em Dezembro de 2024, um novo marco será alcançado com a primeira edição do Teatro del Lago Music Series, no majestoso Teatro del Lago, na Patagônia chilena, a mil quilômetros ao sul de Santiago, onde a música encontrará mais um cenário fulgurante.

Para seguir atentamente, já que acredito, que esta primeira edição foi “um fósforo para o milagre do fogo”.

With just under a month to go until the Piano Concert Festival, May was celebrated by soaking up the beauty of the Sezim Music Festival which took place a few weeks ago in the historic Casa de Sezim. The Music Series Festivals initiative, in partnership with Portugal em Movimento, premiered its first edition in this stunning and idyllic setting in Guimarães.

Under the artistic mastery of pianist Vasco Dantas, the event brought together an extraordinary cast of national musicians with international projection, dedicated to raising the most sublime notes of the classical music and jazz repertoire. Masterful names such as Mário Laginha, Vasco Dantas, João Barradas, Joel Cardoso, Isabel Vaz, Ricardo Gaspar and Marco Rodrigues opened this new chapter with concerts that were unforgettable in their first edition.

The sublime initiative, supported by the Municipality of Guimarães, was part of the annual ‘April with May Songs’ cycle, extolling the excellence of national artistic creation and interpretation with a programme whose mission is to embrace the diversity of audiences.

The beautiful Casa de Sezim was the setting for this new festival and the images will speak for themselves, as after each concert, a cocktail in the sumptuous interiors of the house allowed the audience to contemplate the unrivalled Zuber wallpapers. With figurative scenes of the Americas, the only twins present in the Diplomats’ Room at the White House, as well as Indian and literary landscapes, such as the Don Quixote Room, in this breathtaking setting, the audience chatted with the artists, something that is very rare at music festivals.

It’s important then to throw a lot of petals at the ‘Music Series Festivals’ artistic project, which was born with the mission of supporting and promoting young Portuguese talents in classical music, increasing their national and international visibility. With the ambition of creating a network of classical music festivals, the project values national musical excellence and has my rating of twenty, but with this scenario and why the Sezim Music Series is so special, also because of the commitment and enthusiasm of Manuel Santiago, co-mentor and organiser of the festival, from Zurich in Switzerland.

The origin of ‘Music Series’ goes back to the Algarve Music Series festival, founded in 2016 by cellist Isabel Vaz and pianist Vasco Dantas, who artistically direct the project. In 2022, the festival expanded to Avis, in the Alto Alentejo, with the Avis Music Series. The following year, in the Algarve, the Piano Concert Festival was inaugurated, an educational and performance event that offers young pianists the rare opportunity to rehearse, record and perform with a professional orchestra.

Open to the World, and as early as December 2024, a new milestone will be reached with the first edition of the Teatro del Lago Music Series, at the majestic Teatro del Lago in Chilean Patagonia, a thousand kilometres south of Santiago, where music will find a sparkling setting.

To follow carefully, since I believe that this first edition was ‘a match for the miracle of fire’.
