Sempre defendi a cidade virada ao rio por isso quando surgem projetos que abraçam o Tejo rasgo um sorriso enorme. Bem perto da Ribeira das Naus, de onde vos escrevo estas palavras, jamais me conformarei com os blocos que viraram as costas da cidade ao Tejo, um rio que muitas cidades europeias dariam tudo para ter. Nunca gostei dos blocos da Agência de Segurança Marítima e do Observatório Europeu de Droga e Toxicodependência, que deve ser uma maravilha para quem lá trabalha, mas a um custo muito alto ao bloquear o rio à cidade.
Que Lisboa tem mudado muito nos últimos anos ninguém tem dúvidas. Mais cara e com turistas a mais, sim, mas muito mais bonita e mais recuperada também. E se há momentos em que todos tememos perder a identidade de Lisboa, o que partilho hoje eleva a irreverência dos projectos novos que abraçam bem o postal da cidade.
Quando olhei para o último andar do Lisbon Art Center & Studios (LACS), adorei logo. A Mariana Duarte Silva já tinha pegado nos contentores que fazem parte da identidade da capital, para o seu pioneiro em Lisboa Village Underground, mas coloca-los num rooftop, com aquela vista maravilhosa, tem um resultado espetacular. Pessoalemente adoro contentores, lembra-me uma casa da Lapa que tive bem em frente à ponte e ao ‘monte de legos’ às cores do Porto de Lisboa.
I´ve always defended the city facing the river so when projects appear that embrace the Tagus a huge smile pops up in my face. Near Ribeira das Naus, where I am writing these words, I will never conform to the blocks that resulted in the city turning its back on the Tagus, a river that many European cities would give everything to have. I´ve never liked the blocks of the Agência de Segurança Marítima and the Observatório Europeu de Droga e Toxicodependência, which should be wonderful for those who work there, but at a very high cost as they obstruct the city´s view of the river.
That Lisbon has changed a lot in the last few years no one doubts. More expensive and more touristy, yes, but much more beautiful and rehabilitated too. And if there are times when we all fear losing the identity of Lisbon, what I share today highlights the irreverence of the new projects that embrace the city postcard.
When I looked at the top floor of Lisbon Art Center & Studios (LACS), I loved it on the spot. Mariana Duarte Silva had already taken the containers that are part of the identity of the capital, for her pioneer work in Lisboa Village Underground, but putting them on a rooftop with that amazing view, makes for a spectacular result. Personally I love containers, it reminds me of a house I had in Lapa right in front of the bridge and the coloured ‘Lego agglomeration’ of the Lisbon port.
O edifício que do LACS não passa despercebido porque podia ser mais um bloco de betão onde se trabalha, mas o hub criativo, que tem também um espaço de co-work, abriu o seu terraço em soft opening mesmo antes do verão. Com a abertura do terraço, nasceram o Zazah Good View e o Ōkah, ambos com um vista lindíssima sobre o Tejo. E porque a cidade estava a fugir a banhos Atlânticos, partilho por isso só agora esta morada, que vai selar de boa onda o regresso à cidade.
Imaginem um rooftop um rooftop com vista 360º sobre a cidade, onde se pode beber um copo e petiscar com uma vista linda sobre o Tejo. Sobre o Zazah Good View, acompanha a senda do restaurante e bar Zazah do Príncipe Real e na ementa permanecem os já famosos croquetes de alheira, os cones de sapateira e o prego de atum, agora abençoados por uma vista estrondosa.
The LACS building does not go unnoticed because it could be another concrete block workplace, but the creative hub, which also has a space for co-work, has opened its terrace in soft opening right before the summer. With the opening of the terrace, Zazah Good View and Ōkah restaurant were born, both with a beautiful view over the Tagus. And because the city was fleeing to it’s Atlantic beaches, I share this address only now, which will seals in good spirit the return to the city.
Imagine a rooftop with a 360º view over the city, where you can have a drink and a snack with a beautiful view over the Tagus. On the Zazah Good View, it follows the path of the restaurant and bar Zazah of Príncipe Real, and on the menu you still find the already famous alheira croquettes, the crab cones and the tuna “nail” sandwich, now blessed by a thunderous view.
O terraço tem dois espaços distintos e pode parecer estranho ter dois nomes num único andar, mas eu explico. O convite surgiu do director de operações do Rock in Rio, Ricardo Acto, que ganhou a concessão do rooftop do LACS e desafiou Sidnei Gonzalez, sócio do Zazah, para abraçar esta bonita morada nas margens do Tejo. O Zazah Good View abraça a zona de terraço aberto com bar e zona de dança, com uma carta de cocktails assinada pela Liquid Consulting e mantem a já conhecida carta do Príncipe Real. Claramente uma das moradas obrigatórias para agarrar estes dias ainda estivais. Do lado oposto o Ōkah, surge como um restaurante asiático contemporâneo, que com uma vista estonteante a qual acho perfeita na hora de almoço. A ideia é fazer uma viagem pela internacional e contemporanea com com um toque fortissimo pela Ásia, com vista para o Tejo.
The terrace has two distinct spaces and it may seem strange to have two names on a single floor, but I’ll explain. The invitation came from Rock in Rio operations director Ricardo Acto, who won the LACS rooftop concession and challenged Zazah’s partner Sidnei Gonzalez to embrace this beautiful place on the banks of the Tagus River. Zazah Good View embraces the open terrace area with a bar and dance floor, with a cocktail list signed by Liquid Consulting and maintains the well known menu of Principe Real. Clearly one of the mandatory spots to visit in these summer days. On the opposite side is Ōkah, a contemporary Asian restaurant, which with it’s stunning view I find to be perfect at lunch time. The idea is to take a trip through the international and contemporary with a strong influence of Asia, overlooking the Tagus.
Acompanhados por uma selecção de vinhos, desenvolvida pela sommelier Stephanie Dejongh, tudo o que provei, adorei, sobretudo por ser simples, despretencioso e muito saboroso. Claramente uma das experiencias asiáticas que mais gostei de viver em Lisboa este ano. Inspirado por Moisés Franco, o chef do restaurante Zazah Príncipe Real abençou a carta de inspiração asiática, mas é agora o chef Bruno Rodrigues (que já passou por cozinhas com o carimbo do chef José Avillez, Luís Baena ou Henrique Sá Pessoa) que assina agora as maravilhas que podemos provar.
Eu delirei com o Kinilaw, o conhecido ceviche filipino, as gambas em fio de batata com molho agridoce e o Satay de Fraldinha, umas espetadas feitas com um bife macio com molho de amendoim e cebolinho. Recomendo também o Tataki Kombu maravilhoso finalizado com Kombu e Camarão Tigre escalado com um molho especial. E não vou revelar tudo para vos deixar embalar pelo Tejo na escolha de uma carta que promete carimbar de coisas boas este final de Verão. Podem esperar muitos cominhos (sou fã), várias pimentas, gengibre, caril, canela e um telefone em riste de tanta fotografia bonita para o instagram, mas prefiro aquela frase do Tolentino Mendonça, em que “estamos tão pouco onde estamos” por isso fica o convite com telefone telefone limitado para viver esta cidade num dos terraços mais espetaculares que Lisboa recebeu nestes últimos tempos vibrantes.
Accompanied by a selection of wines chosen by sommelier Stephanie Dejongh, everything I tasted I loved, especially for it´s simplicity, unpretentiousness and tastyness. Clearly one of the Asian experiences that I most enjoyed in Lisbon this year. Inspired by Moisés Franco, chef Zazah Príncipe Real blessed the Asian inspired menu, but it is now chef Bruno Rodrigues (who has already been through kitchens with the stamp of chef José Avillez, Luís Baena or Henrique Sá Pessoa) who now signs the wonders we can now taste.
I absolutely raved with Kinilaw, the well-known Philippine ceviche, the potato yams with sweet and sour sauce, and the Fraldinha Satay, skewers made with a soft steak with peanut sauce and chives. I also recommend the wonderful Tataki Kombu finished with Kombu and Tiger Shrimp scaled with a special sauce. And I will not reveal everything to let you be cradled by the Tagus in choosing a menu that promises to stamp this summer with great things. You can expect a lot of cumin (I’m a fan), several peppers, ginger, curry, cinnamon and a mobile phone shooting away with beautiful pictures for instagram, but I prefer that quote from Tolentino Mendonça which says “we are so little where we are” so the invitation is out, with limited mobile phone, to enjoy this city in one of the most spectacular terraces that Lisbon has received in recent vibrant times.
