O Independente Comporta abriu portas este Verão, e eu guardei-me até acabar a época estival para revelar um hotel imperdível na Costa Azul. A razão tardia cai sobre a minha suspeita, porque gosto mais das terras da Comporta fora de época, elegendo Maio e Outubro como os melhores meses, sem muita gente e com o paraíso que um dia conhecemos.
O Independente (antes conhecido como The Independente Collective) relançou a sua marca em grande, já que este ano abriu duas moradas, esta na Comporta e uma segunda na Bica que irei elogiar oportunamente. E escrevo elogiar porque acompanho este grupo desde o dia um e tenho um orgulho muito grande no que fazem. Bernardo e Duarte D’Eça Leal, cumprem bem o turismo em Portugal, porque criando sempre projectos com sentido de mundo, onde dizemos “Olá a todos os estranhos” (um dos slogans estandarte é “Hello Stranger”), criam sempre moradas que com sentido internacional, não ferem e até elogiam, a identidade Portuguesa.
Por isso arrebatei-me com o Independente Comporta. Com trinta e quatro villas e quarenta quartos de hotel, num ambiente boho-chic inundado de pormenores artesanais portugueses, o hotel promove a sustentabilidade, e a tendência regenerativa tão urgente no nosso Planeta.
A poucos minutos da Comporta e por isso a beleza do sossego, esta é uma daquelas moradas onde chegamos e sentimos que poderíamos viver ali. Falo da despretensão, do sentido de simplicidade, da coerência estética, dos detalhes de tantos artesãos, mas sobretudo da vibração descontraída e humana, tão conectada com o essencial que sentimos sempre nos espaços ‘Independente’.
Na gastronomia que acompanham sempre as aberturas do grupo, já se sabe que nunca fica atrás, com cartas sempre pensadas também para as carteiras portuguesas, das diferentes gerações. A oferta inclui o restaurante Maroto, que combina ingredientes locais de terra e mar, acompanhados por uma seleção de vinhos excepcionais. Além deste, o Boia, à beira da piscina com um alpendre fantástico para pizzas, saladas e cocktails. É uma grande marotice resistir às propostas do chef, mas outro ingrediente de ouro do grupo é que o conceito é sempre pensado para partilhar.
Preparam-se por isso para provar a melhor ‘Cavala curada e regada com tomate e morango’ da vossa vida, entre tantos pratos onde também destaco a Açorda alentejana com bacalhau fumado e limão, já que é da casa relembrar sempre os sabores e ingredientes portugueses. As sobremesas cumprem o Alentejo, com a ‘Sericaia’, e a ‘Tarte de alfarroba com amêndoa e figo’, ambas deliciosas, com nota ainda mais alta para as ‘Farófias com creme de lavanda e amêndoas’ que simplesmente delirei.
Eu gosto de dar mergulhos no Outono e até Inverno no mar, mas o Independente Comporta oferece um mergulho tão holístico como em águas Atlânticas, já que o hotel também tem um espaço de reconexão muito especial. O Aura Spa oferece tratamentos naturais e terapêuticos, em paralelo com atividades como yoga, pilates e uma pista de jogging, a equipa é especial, mas só conhecendo para alcançar a energia elevada.
Além de ser um hotel singular que claramente se destaca por não estar fazer nada mais sofisticado do que o ADN da Comporta pediria, o Independente Comporta é também uma porta de entrada para a riqueza cultural e natural da região, já que a experiência é um convite a sentir o artesanato local e a tradição portuguesa, nos vários espaços todos pensados a dedo.
E porque no grupo Independente o mais importante são sempre as pessoas, deixei o melhor para o fim. Na minha estadia fiquei encantada com a união da equipa, sempre tão atenciosa e natural, longe de qualquer experiência turística de massas que avassalou Portugal nos últimos anos. Por isso considero o Independente Comporta uma pequena jóia, onde conseguimos sentir a simplicidade do que a Comporta sempre foi. Uma ode á natureza e à (afinal) sofisticada simplicidade.
The Independente Comporta opened doors this summer, and I saved myself until the end of the summer season to reveal an unmissable hotel on the Costa Azul. The reason I’m late is because I like Comporta better out of season, choosing May and October as the best months without the crowds and the paradise we once knew.
Independente (formerly known as The Independente Collective) has relaunched its brand in a big way, having opened two locations this year, one in Comporta and a second in Bica, which I’ll comment on in due course. And I’m praising because I’ve been following this group since day one, and I’m very proud of what they do. Bernardo and Duarte D’Eça Leal do tourism in Portugal well, because they always create projects with a sense of the world, where we say “Hello to all strangers” (one of the funniest slogans at the relaunch party was “Hello Stranger”), always create addresses that, with an international flavour, don’t harm or even praise Portuguese identity.
That’s why I was delighted with Independente Comporta. With thirty-four villas and forty hotel rooms, in a boho-chic atmosphere full of Portuguese handcrafted details, the hotel promotes sustainability and the regenerative trend that is so urgent on our Planet.
Just a few minutes from Comporta, and therefore the beauty of the quiet, this is one of those places where you arrive and feel like you could live there. I’m talking about the unpretentiousness, the sense of simplicity, the aesthetic coherence, the details of so many artisans, but above all the relaxed and human vibe, so connected to the essentials that we always feel in the ‘Independente’ spaces.
In terms of gastronomy, which always accompanies the group’s openings, it is already known that it is never far behind, with menus always designed for Portuguese wallets of different generations. The offer includes the Maroto restaurant, which combines local ingredients from land and sea, accompanied by a selection of exceptional wines. There’s also Boia, by the pool with a fantastic terrace for pizzas, salads and cocktails. It’s very foolish to resist the chef’s proposals, but another golden ingredient of the group is that the concept is always designed for sharing.
So get ready to try the best ‘Cured mackerel with tomatoes and strawberries’ of your life, among many other dishes where I would also highlight the ‘Açorda alentejana with smoked cod and lemon’, as the house always recalls Portuguese flavours and ingredients. The desserts are in keeping with the Alentejo, with the ‘Sericaia’ and the ‘Carob tart with almonds and figs’, both delicious, with an even higher rating for the ‘Farófias with lavender and almond cream’, which I simply raved about.
I like to take autumn and even winter dives in the sea, but the Independente Comporta offers just as holistic dive in Atlantic waters, as the hotel also has a very special reconnection space. The Aura Spa offers natural and therapeutic treatments, alongside activities such as yoga, pilates and a jogging track. The team is special, but you only need to meet them to achieve the high energy.
As well as being a unique hotel that clearly stands out for not doing anything more sophisticated than the DNA of Comporta would ask for, Independente Comporta is also a gateway to the cultural and natural richness of the region, as the experience is an invitation to feel the local crafts and Portuguese tradition, in the various spaces all thoughtfully designed.
And because in the Independente group the most important thing is always the people, I left the best for last. During my stay I was enchanted by the unity of the team, always so attentive and natural, far removed from any of the mass tourist experiences that have overwhelmed Portugal in recent years. That’s why I consider Independente Comporta to be a little gem, where you can feel the simplicity that Comporta has always been. An ode to nature and (ultimately) sophisticated simplicity.
